The current study, published in the journal FEBS, the research team examined data of 7807 people who recently underwent a COVID-19 test as well as a Vitamin D blood test.

The findings showed that low levels of Vitamin D in the blood was identified as independently associated with the likelihood of COVID-19 infection.

According to the study, of 7807 individuals; 782 (10.1%) were COVID-19 positive and 7025, (89.9%) were negative

The researchers found that the mean plasma Vitamin D level was significantly lower among for those who tested positive than negative for COVID-19

During the research the team also revealed that COVID-19 positive participants were younger and more likely to be males

In analyses age over 50 years, male gender and low-medium socioeconomic status were also positively associated with the risk of COVID-19 infection; age over 50 years was positively associated with the likelihood of hospitalization due to coronavirus

Univariate analysis demonstrated an association between low plasma level and increased likelihood of COVID-19 infection and hospitalization due to SARS-CoV2 virus.
